OBX Connects: Cranks & Threads

The next OBX Connect is all about making our own technologies! What if we could stitch, weave or knit our own computers? What kinds of contraptions would you make if you had space to tinker and play? And what are the challenges to machine making in your living room?

This month we have three talks…

Cabaret Mechanical Theatre will share how their vast collection of automata inspires people to make their own machines. Becca Rose will give a rough guide to all things electronic textiles, sharing some of the interwoven histories between textiles and computers. And Ronan Lavor will share what it was like to build a full size CNC machine in his living room, and talk about its future as a community resource at OBX.

Stay with us after the talks to play with some of Cabaret Mechanical Theatre’s automata exhibits, take a look at the CNC, and try out some conductive yarns and threads!

There’ll be a pop-up bar open from 6:30 for you to buy drinks, and there might even be a mince pie or two!
